Current Crush - Glamorous UK

Thursday, 26 July 2012

I've not done a current crush post for a while and I'm completely obsessed with this website right now so thought I would link up.
I'm sure most of you have heard of Glamorous UK by now. They do stunning dresses, pretty blouses and gorgeous skirts, and nothing is over £50!.

I bought a turquoise waterfall hem skirt from Glamorous UK via Republic, as they are now selling in Republic stores, for my holiday, and theres so many other things and the site I would buy. I could literally buy the entire site!

Below are some of my current favourites. I'm currently toying with the idea of the disco pants. These are are dupe for the famous American Apparel ones. I used to wear wet look leggings and I cant really see what the different is between the two but I've heard disco pants are like spanx. I would wear them with that yellow blouse as its long enough to cover my bum still!

Have you bought anything from Glamorous? What are your views on Disco Pants, and are they similar to wet look leggings?

Liebster Award

Friday, 20 July 2012

Well this is a first for me, I've been tagged in a blogger award! How amazing!!?!!

I was tagged by the lovely Kate of With Love. Its an award for bloggers with less than 200 followers so lesser known bloggers get some loving too! I'd never heard of it, or Katie' s blog until I was tagged and now I've found a lovely new blog to follow, it's working already!

11 things about me...(you may have seen some of these when I've featured elsewhere!)

1. My Birthday is 10th June (I'm 27)
2. I have a one year old black working labrador (although he doesn't work really!) called Jocasi Aldwyn (from Willow) or his usually name is Toby - as in Toblerone; Toby Lerone.
3. I also have a cat called Star - I have no idea why she is called Star, it's the name she came with from the rescue.
4. I have my ears pierced 3 times - I wanted them done again, but I'm a complete wuss and would need to have a body piercing needle now rather than the gun so I've stopped there.
5. I have a Red Mini Cooper called (originally!) Minnie - she has a boyfriend called Percy (my best friend's red Fiat Punto, Percy)
6. I'm a children's social worker (this isn't something I really disclose on my blog due to the negative reactions, but now I've been around a while I'm hoping this will go down ok)
7. I haven't seen my natural hair colour for around 10 years
8. I currently live in my parents house (which I rent from them) as they live in a house owned by the Chatsworth House Estate (excellent discount!)
9. I used to hate tea, until I went on a coffee detox, now I  rarely drink coffee. I will always have loose leaf tea over a bag given the chance but it's not practical for my morning brew.
10. I'm an ex smoker. I quit smoking last New Year, at the same time I started losing weight.
11. I am a massive Harry Potter geek. I own first editions, special editions everything (including snitch necklace. I recently joined Pottermore and I am known as DawnSeeker234.

My 11 questions from Katie

1. Whats your favourite piece of jewellery at the moment?

It will always have two - my engagement ring and my Tiffany necklace I bought in New York - my two friends bought the same one too (we chose it completely independently of each other too!)
2. Favourite make up product?
Eyeliner - I can often forget mascara, but my Mum taught my how to use eyeliner inside my eye when I was about 10 and I've found it a daily essential since I've been old enough to wear it daily!
3. What 3 things would you want with you if you were stranded on a desert island ?
My fiancee, my dog and my cat (although I'd have to find them someone nice and cool during the day) As long as I've got my family - and my animals are my family - I'm happy
4. Your favourite perfume?
Miss Dior
5. Book or Kindle?
Oh rubbish - I hate this question. I sort of addressed this question in my post here but it will always be a book for me.
6. Going to festivals or watching from home?
Going! Always! I've been to Reading & Leeds twice and it makes me cry inside to watch on TV (unless it's after I've been so I can say, "I was there!")
7. Favourite type of posts to do?
I don't really have a favourite type of post to do, but I do enjoy writing long chatty informal posts, as I think they represent me as a person more.
8. Current job?
As above, children's social worker
9. Dream Job?
Frighteningly I already have it, It's what I wanted to do since leaving school. I don't want management or anything as I enjoy the contact with people too much.
10. Where would you like to be in 5 years time?
Still living in my house, although my garden would be perfect, I'd be married with maybe a little one on the way, oh and have all my debts paid off.
11. Busy city or quiet country side?
Bit of both? Is that cheating? I live in a country village but it's not your typical sleepy village and has a bit of a nightlife and a 24 hour Tesco!

Coffee Date

Tuesday, 17 July 2012

If we had a coffee date I'd tell you that.......

Since my return from my holiday I've been rather absent from the blogging world. I found this link up to Alissa's Coffee Date at Rags To Stitches via Alesha at Blessed to Be a Blessing. Alesha was the lovely lady whom I was a blog angel for, but even though the project has finished I'm still following and supporting her.

Anyway, I thought this would be a good way to get back into things and give you a general update on what's been happening.

Well as you know I spent 2 glorious weeks in Cuba. I left my blog in very capable hands with some lovely guest posters whilst I was away and I hoped you enjoyed reading them. Obviously I was unable to access the internet whilst I was away, and when I got home I had so much unpacking, washing etc to do. I also had to take my poorly pooch to the vet. He had a pea sized lump on his head which has had to be removed (along with his manly bits) and I was feeling rather guilty for  leaving him for so long then doing that to him - so I've spent a lot of time at home looking after him.

I was also very much dreading going back to work. I really struggle to get on with my boss and I felt sick at the thought of going home. Since returning to work she's been ok with me, as I think she's realised how busy I am by how much she's had to cover in my absence, but I know this won't last for long. My department is also undergoing a restructure and a new team is being created which I really want to get into but there's a lot of stiff competition so that's another anxiety.

I've also been thinking alot about what I want from life and how I want it to be. We saw a lot of weddings in our hotel, and went to one recently, which has made us think a lot about our own wedding plans. It does become difficult to keep batting off all the "have you set a date yet" and "so when you having children"  type questions. These are both things that we want as a couple and although there's a part of me that still wants to go out in skyscraper heels and dance on tables, there's another side that wants to snuggle up with a takeaway and the dog getting fat. It's obviously about finding the right balance.

I've sort of lost my blogging mojo recently. To some extent I think my other half is pleased about this. Although he says he's glad I've found a hobby I enjoy - aside from reading - he does complain it takes up rather a lot of my time. I've also struggled with my work load alongside my blog too, both before my holiday and since. I have a few posts planned, but whereas before I felt I was good at posting very regularly, they make be a little less frequent, at least for the next month.Hopefully you will all stick with me, and I will get back into the swing of things. I've been in touch with one or two bloggy friends, and I'm best reached via twitter - in fact I'd love you all to tweet me to let me know what sort of things you want to see on my blog and general words of encouragement! I've also commissioned some design work for my bog which I cannot wait to share with you all once it's been perfected!

Just as an extra note - I reached my target weight before I went on holiday, however I did gain a little whilst I was away - a while 3 1/2lbs!!!! Not bad for two weeks all inclusive eh?

If we had a coffee date what would you tell me?

I'm back!!

Thursday, 5 July 2012

I've now returned from my holidays! I'm going to spend some time getting over my jetlag - unpacking and playing with my pooch, before I get back to you all and your comments, and blog posts I've missed. Looking forward to a good catch up!
Hope you didn't miss me too much!

Guest Blogger - Mummy Styleee

Monday, 2 July 2012

My final guest blogger is is the lovely Lucy from Capture by Lucy, who has practically become my stalker and one of my new bloggy best friends! Her random emails make my literally laugh out loud everyday and she cheers me up no end - If she hasn't revealed herself as my blog angel by now, well I'll eat my hat quite frankly! (A rather fetching straw trilby number!) As I am not a mummy, I feel unable to talk about mummy fashion, Lucy being a Mummy to two boys (three if you count her husband!) certainly is qualified!

Time to hang up those Mummy no nos!

It wasn't long after my 30th birthday last year that reality suddenly dawned on me. I am a mother, in my thirties, with 2 children.

Not that I am complaining at all, I am a very lucky lady but when I go to get dressed I find that I seem to have less to wear. Not that I have any less clothes in my wardrobe. It's just that since I hit 30 and the realisation that I am not perhaps the yummy mummy type, I see strolling around Clifton Village drinking Costa coffees, I feel there are some fashion no nos.

My top 3 (at the moment - I am sure that over the summer a few more will be added to the list!)

At Number 1
The short denim shorts

OK so mine are turn ups and not cut offs, but as soon as I put them on there is nothing Daisy Duke about me. When you are tucking post baby tummies into denim shorts it's time to put them in the Charity shop pile! They are not even that short once they are on. But still they feel too young, a little too tight no matter how well I am doing at Slimming World and have 'no give' a staple must have for all the fabrics in my wardrobe!

At Number 2:-
The Playsuit
Even though I know they are acceptable for the over 6's because they are in every summer window display, the difficulty in being able to nip to the loo when I have the children entertained is making me reconsider the practicality of a playsuit. I have several. I adore them. They make me feel young, fun and girly until my husband says "are you off to the 1940's for a dip in the ocean?" OK so I admit the navy and white striped number is a little on the vintage nautical side, but the jersey material is so comfortable and the way the fabric is loose around your waist, is much more flattering than a tight vest top.

I am determined to fight my fashion instinct that says they should all go to my younger, slimmer, pre baby bodied sister. Just for one more summer.

Last but by no means least at Number 3:-
The frilly short summer dress

Not only are they too short (who really wants to see next week's washing when you bend over to get a packet of wet wipes out of the changing bag?) but the frill really screams I want to be in my twenties! I love this particular Miss Selfridge (there you go - really not the target market to be in there!) dress and I have great memories about the holidays that I wore it on.
Every time I have worn it in the last year, I find myself constantly tugging at the back of it, as if it will miraculously grow an extra 3 inches! It also flouts the golden rule of either legs or boobs! Not both!
Definitely one for my beautiful sister!

Please tell me if you think I am barking mad! I do hope I haven't offended anyone who is rocking their shorts, playsuits and frilly dresses, I salute you yummy mummies and wish I was one of you!

Hmm I have all these items in my wardrobe and I'm 3 years off 30! Best get some wear out of them then haha! I'm pretty sure Lucy is being far too self critical here, but what do you guys think?

I hope you've enjoyed reading my guest blogger posts and they entertained you whilst I was away. Hopefully they haven't knocked over the best china on their way out, and remembered to water the plants, and you discovered some lovely new blogs to follow!
