I'm going back........the full update!

Thursday, 31 May 2012

So some of you may have seen my post yesterday about re-joining Slimming World. Thank you all of you for all your lovely messages and wishes of support!

So here is the full facts of the matter:-

Starting Weight - 11st 3.5lbs Jan 2011
Target Weight  - 9st 10.5lbs Oct 2011

Total Loss - 1st 7lbs

Last weigh in weight - 10st 0lb - April 2012
Last nights weigh in - 10st 1lb - May 2012

Total gain - 5.5lbs

So overall not as bad as I was expecting! I was welcomed back with open arms and everyone was as lovely as if I'd been there the week before!

However psychologically I haven't been in the right place to get back on track. I had a good long chat with my consultant who feels this is because that really 9st 10.5lb is not where I want to be. I've always wanted to be at the bottom of my target 'range' which is 9st 7.5lb, but I get back to 9st 10.5lb and it all goes wrong, as my head tells me I don't need to bother trying anymore. We are going to work at this in stages - first is to get 1.5lb off and get back into my target range again.

Today has been 'ok' not great, eating wise. Breakfast was fine, but I had no lunch as I just didn't have time with the way things were at work today, but I did end up having a single finger timeout - oh dear! I haven't even worked out the syns yet.

However my tea was super super good :D So i thought I would share the picture and the recipe with you all. It may inspire you to join me!

Diet Coke Chicken

yes you read it right DIET COKE!!

This may sound bizarre but honestly it tasts great! My OH is very fussy with food and turned his nose up until he tasted it!

This recipe is free on SLimming World - I'm sorry I don't know ProPoints!

Serves 2 - with a little left over for lunch

1 onion, roughly chopped
2 chicken breasts, diced1 red pepper, thinly slices
1 can (300ml) diet coke/pepsi max/diet rolla cola
6 tbsp passata
1 tsp chinese 5 spice

1. In frylight over a medium heat fry off the onion and the chicken until lightly browned

2. Add the can of diet coke, passata,  and chinese 5 spice, bring to the boil.

3. Turn down heat and reduced to a simmer with the lid off until the liquid has reduced to a thick sticky bbq style sauce - this will seem to take ages to happen them all of a sudden it will just go really thick so keep your eye on it!

Serve with rice and salad

Instagram - Week in pictures

Thursday, 31 May 2012

This is a bit of a cop out post as I've got so many to come but I've got lots of photo editing to do first.
Sunday - messy desk; Monday - new product discovery; Tuesday - my beautiful pup watching me get ready for work; Wednesday - cake for my boyfriend's birthday; Thursday - gripe water for a friend; Friday - work coffee and muffin;
Saturday - a hint of things to come; Saturday night - rock and roll night in!; Sunday - best start to a sunday morning
1. I should have been working, instead I was tweeting and debating with the lovely girls from F.B.L. 2. I discovered Fudge purple shampoo for blondes. As a recent blonde I'm still discovering products. I'll discuss this more in a later post.
3. My gorgeous Labrador Toby, who will be 1 year old in June. He loves laying on the sheepskin rug in my bedroom in front of the radiator whilst I get ready.
4. The death by chocolate cake I made for my fiancée's 29th birthday, which I topped with a fondant version of Toby and our cat, Star. Not my best effort aesthetically, but tasted great. I'll be trying this again.
5. No I don't have a baby, but my 4 month old godson suffers with colic. Gripe water is currently hard to come by but another friend of mine had a full bottle still which she didn't use!! I saved my friend £20 (that's the current price on ebay!!!)
6. Friday workday treat - latte and a blueberry muffin.
7. A hint of future posts to come in the coming week or so.
8.. My rock and roll night in with my kindle!
9. The only way to start a rainy Sunday morning - whilst perusing some blogs of course!
I've got lots of beauty and fashion blog posts planned so stick with me :)

Current Crush Thursday's...........Birthday Wishes

Thursday, 31 May 2012

I'm linking up with Danielle at Framed Frosting's Current Crush Thursday's again.

As it's my birthday a week on Sunday (eeep another year older!) I've been spending lost of time looking at Kindle covers. The ones available in the shops are really boring then I discovered Etsy!
How I have got this far in life before I discovered Etsy!?! I'm generally behind in most things but honestly!!!

Anyway I thought I'd show you some of the ones I've been looking at. I just can't choose!!! I need to make my mind up though if I'm going to get one in time for my holiday in three weeks otherwise my poor kindle may be a bit battered!!

Kindle cover wishlist

I think I'm veering more towards the ones with the little pocket on the front, then I can keep my cable and phone all together too. I also like the ones with the little carry strap too. Decisions decisions!  Do you guys have any recommendations? As you can see I'm liking pastel colours and floral designs, and buttons!

I'm going back......!!!

Tuesday, 29 May 2012

There I've put it out there into the bloggy universe! I'm going back to Slimming World!!!

Now this post isn't to inspire lots of comments about how I "don't need to slim". This is about my own motivation and making a promise to myself and you guys!!

I joined Slimming World on 19th January 2011. I lost 1 1/2st in 10 months. This may seem like a long time, but I didn't have massive amounts to loose and went on three all inclusive holidays in that same year!! (Ooops!)
Once you reach target with Slimming World, and remain within 3lbs either way, your membership is free. I was always very proud that, even over Christmas I managed to loose any gain in order to maintain my free membership.

Until recently.

I have now gained over half a stone and I am well out of my target range. I began paying again and then I haven't been for three weeks since as I have found it so hard to go back. The problem here is if I miss over 6 weeks, I either have to pay for the weeks I have missed, or loose all of my previous history.

I have a holiday coming up in three weeks from tomorrow - which is ample time to loose half a stone if I stick to the plan, or at least get within 3lbs of it in order to maintain my target range.

So this is my little promise to myself and you guys! I'm going back to my old group, tomorrow and I'm going to loose that half stone before my holiday. I'm going to do it properly, no mucking about, writing everything down, meal planning and counting everything!

This is not suddenly going to become a weight loss blog, but I will do a weekly update on Wednesdays following my weigh in. I will also include my weekly meal plans.

What I need from you is moral bloggy support! A virtual 'put the cake down' Jenni if you will! Blogging will be what prevents me from having that pudding because if I'm tapping away I can't be eating!

Wish me luck, and if you want to join me on my journey, let me know. Any weight loss journey is hard no matter how big or how small, and we all need someone watching those scales for us!!

I'll be back tomorrow with my stats and letting you know how group went.I'm more nervous than I was about originally joining!
Wish me luck!!!

Open the box........

Sunday, 27 May 2012

I love getting the little card through the post that tells me theres a parcel at the sorting office. I had a feeling I knew what it would be but I didn't expect a box this big!!

I subscribe to 'My Cake Decorating' Magazine. I enjoy baking and decorating cupcakes, as can been seen through various posts throughout my blog. I hadn't received a magazine for a while so I suspected this is what it was, but I still couldn't fathom out the size of the box! The only problem with subscribing is that you get a month worth of magazine's all in one go, so that means you end up behind, alhough I think I'm an issue in front now.

I received four magazines, and the associated tools, plus an addtional Jubilee special addition.  The special editions are at an extra cost but as a subscriber the cost is £2 cheaper than it is in the shops.

At the top of the picture are the tools that come with the Jubilee edition. You really do get loads with it, including cupcake wrappers (some ar just lacy ones so I think I will save these ones for another occasions) a crown cutter, crown stencils and cake toppers. heres also a pack of some jelly dots, which I'll be quite honest looked liked breast implants for a barbie doll!! Seriously! I kid you not! Then I realised they are upside down and the are edibles jewels. (I'm still not sure if I will actually want to eat them though now!)

With the normal magazines I received some more stencils, two piping tips, a cameo mould - which I'm really looking forwrad to trying out on some mini cakes, and two flower embosser/cutters. I also received a binder, which holds my magazines much nicer, but I'm rather miffed it doesn't fit on my shelf!

But even after all this, it still didn't explain the size of the box!

But this did!!! As a subscriber I receive additonal free gifts. I'd already received a sugar craft gun and this was my second gift - a cake caddy! I've been meaning to buy one of these for ages, but now I think I'll get one especially designed for cupcakes.

Pretty snazzy eh? And I think a pretty good 'free gift' that's of a decent quality and something I will use.

OOTD - Lazing on a sunny afternoon.......

Saturday, 26 May 2012

In the summertime.......

So you may have seen my post yesterday about how much I'm loving maxi skirts.
Yesterday evening my other half and I took our gorgeous (if slightly naughty!) Labrador Toby for a walk to our local pub and back. The light and the setting was really good, so I roped him into doing so outfit photos for me!

The post is rather picture heavy but I really liked them all, and wanted to include a couple of bonus ones too!

Skirt - New Look, Body - H&M, Handbag River Island

Gladiator Sandals - New Look

Necklace - Tesco, Belt - Primark;
Bracelet - Boots

Sunglasses - Primark, Earrings - Boots

Look!! My other half (aka Scott) has finally made an appearance on my blog!

This is Toby pretending like he's really not naughty at all and does as he's told!

This is the first picture I actually have of me and my other half together since I've dyed my hair blonde. Not the best picture so I do need to take many more!!

So that was how we enjoyed a warm and sunny Friday evening - a peaceful walk followed by a well deserved glass of rose!

How are you enjoying the sunshine?

Currently Loving.......Maxi Skirts

Thursday, 24 May 2012

I am becoming more than a little bit obsessed with maxi skirts right now!

After watching Zoella's video on maxi skirt styling tips, I thought I would give one a whirl. I often struggle to get maxi skirts long enough, as I have longer legs than you would think, so most maxi dresses look fine with flipflops, but too short with heels.

I'm going to do an OOTD post weaning a maxi skirt this week - after all it is sunny!

But I thought I would share some of the Maxi Skirt's that I would love to get my hands on!

Dorothy Perkins £!8.00

H&M £9.99

New Look £14.00 - this is the one I own

Oasis £55.00

Per Una £45.00

River Island £40.00

Warehouse £45.00

Have you thought about wearing a maxi skirt?

Lush Re-useable Tulip Bubble Bar

Wednesday, 23 May 2012

So in my last post I mentioned the Lush Tulip Re-usable Bubble Bar.

I'll be quite honest I didn't have particularly high expectations for this bubble bar, as I couldn't believe it was really going to be reusable. I've used lots of Lush bubble bars, and they crumble away really quickly once they hit the water, so I couldn't see how this was going to work.

Anyway, this one is on a lollipop stick and the idea is that you swirl it around in the bath whilst the water is running.

I swirled it around quite a few times. This is the amount of bubbles it produced.

It didn't produce loads and loads of bubbles but then the bubble bars never really do anyway, so I wasn't overly disappointed with this aspect. It turned the bath sightly orangey and it smelled lovely. Like a chocolatey orangey smell.

The bubbles didn't last very long once I got in, but again I don't think they last as long as bubble bath liquid does anyway so this wasn't unusual, and obviously you're using a lot less product than normal

As you can see, there was still loads left - at least another 2 or 3 baths I would say. I'll update this post once I've finished it off and let you know how many times I did use it.

The one word of caution I would say with this, is to make sure you take off the green ribbon before putting it anywhere hear the bath. Once it got wet all the dye transferred to my fingers and then wouldn't come off! So just remove it first.

Have you tried the re-usable bubble bar? Would you be more inclined to after reading this review? Let me know your thoughts.

Lush Haul and Pheonix Rising Review

Monday, 21 May 2012

I went to Lush!! I decided I needed a little pick me up and I got the waft of the shop as I walked past and I was enticed in!

Lush have recently held a contraversial campaign Against Animal Testing which I'm sure you have seen, but thats the inspiration around the current packaging.

I have to be honest I'm not fully keen on the new packaging. I think the campaign is a worthy cause, but personally I liked the bright yellow happy sunny packaging - but they still look enticing all wrapped up in the bag - just waiting for you to dive in and pull something out! Like an upmarket bran tub! Who knows what you may pull out!

Well here's exactly what I pulled out!

Top L-R Pheonix Rising Bath Bomb £3.15; You've Been Mangoed Bath Melt £2.95
Butterball Bath Bomb £2.40
Bottom L-R Tulip Reuseable Bubble Bar £4.95 Green Bubbleroon £3.25;
Yazoo & Coco Bubbleroon £2.95

Sweet Lips Lip Scrub £4.95
I have had dry lips of late that lip balms are not quite sorting out so I bought this lip scrub to help smooth them off for my lovely summer shimmery lip glosses!
Bubblesroons - The Green looks more green in this picture

I have used this re-useable bubble bar already and I'm going to do a review about it shortly.

These are two old favourites of mine. I like putting half of a You've Been Mangoed and Half and Avobath in together.

One thing I do need to mention about Lush is their staff - they are so lovely and enthusiastic. No matter how reluctant you are, they manage to engage you in conversation. It was thanks to the lady in my local Lush store that I even heard about the Instyle Nails Inc polishes!
She suggested I try the Pheonix Rising bath bomb. I'm not sure Lush would be overly happy with her description of it but it's just perfect. It's got a spicy scent, that may remind you of Christmas, but it makes me think of Asian Spices, or maybe what a Abu Dhabi Souk Market may smell like (its even the same colour as Carrie's skirt from that famous moment where she lays eyes on Aiden again!) and she described it as a "self-pity bath bomb". When you really want to feel sorry for yourself and be wrapped in a big purple hug. This bath bomb is exactly that. It's just warming and satisfying in that way. The purple outer gives way to a green centre, which really fizzes! The purple takes longer to fizz so it lasts well.

Have you tried any of these bath bombs?

A Home Made with Memories.....

Sunday, 20 May 2012

I claim to be a Fashion, Beauty and Lifestyle blogger, yet I've noticed there has been a distinct lack of the lifestyle element of late.

I thought I would do almost a mini home tour, and show you some of my choice pieces that feature in my Kitchen and Bathroom - my two favourite rooms in my house. Some things have been bought to go with the general look and design, but most come attached with a fond memory in some way.

My Bathroom has a very strong seaside theme - and that's the first thing everyone comments on when they visit! It's my favourite place to relax, and by the time I've got a bubblegum scented bathbomb in there, it conjures up childhood memories of winter evenings, eating fish and chips followed by candyfloss on the seafront whilst getting wet from sea spray.

The little beach hut money box reminds me of an east coast family holiday resort we visited all the time when I was a child, and they had a row of beach huts just like this on the sea front. I saw this and the little boat in a little shop in Whitby, but didn't buy them at the time as it was such a tiny shop and was really busy, but then I found them in a shop in my local shopping centre and snapped them up - but I like to think I really bought them in Whitby! The candle in the glass was from the same place, but I added some seashells I've collected over the many years of visiting English seaside towns.

These pictures were all purchased - the row of three is from Dunelm, and the 'Beach' sign is from Debenhams. The row of three pictures always makes me smile, as a friend of mine was particularly taken by them, as her father, who was in the Merchant Navy, had recently died, and she wanted to theme her spare room in memory of them, and she fell in love with these three.

These two little beach hut door hangers were bought for purely practical reasons rather than anything else, so they don't have a specific memory attached to them, but I love them all the same! Everything is equal in my home.

This is a canvas painting that cost me about £6 when I was on holiday in Greece last year, that I had framed. My boyfriend and I bought it when we visited a little island called Nisyros, which is actually a dormant volcano, and when went right down into the 'caldera'. This was one of the most relaxing and beautiful holidays I have been on, and this picture reminds me of those warm and relaxing days through the British winter. It was intended to go in our bedroom, but we decided to put it in our Bathroom, and I love looking at it whilst taking a bath or shower.

I spend hours and hours in my kitchen. If I had a TV in there I would probably never go in my living room! I love sitting at my breakfast bar, looking out of the french patio doors onto the garden whilst working blogging on my laptop listening to something relaxing on the radio. Currently I can hear the birds tweeting away too. Blissful!

My Kitchen is full of kitsch little items like these. The pictures and the oil lantern were bought for me as gifts by one of best friends. The little one says "Friends are Heavenly". You may recognise the little teapot from my Tea For One post. I'm still searching for the right candle to go in my little birdcage. I love vintage style birdcages and wish I had other places to put them!

The pink spotty vase is a very recent charity shop find, so it may get relocated yet. My friend spotted it and picked it up telling me I "needed to get it" for my kitchen! My kitchen is becoming notorious amongst friends and family! At only £1 though she was right! The blue tin jug came from Wilkinson's out of their bathroom section and normally has flowers in, but as my fiancee is away I'll have to buy some flowers to myself, as its normally his little job to keep this filled.

The cake stand, which features in one of my Sunday Sweetness posts, where you can see the pattern much better, was bought as Christmas gift for me by my Mum and Dad, as they know how much I love them, as does my Mum. We are now currently working on getting the full matching tea service via car boots, charity shops and eBay. The tea cup seen here was one left to me by my great grandmother. It doesn't actually match the saucer, but it was the one she always gave me when I visited (probably because it didn't matter that it matched so it didn't matter if I broke it maybe) but my mum made sure it came to me when I had my own home to put it in.

The heavy Victorian iron that I use as a bookstand has been in our family for as long as I can remember. My Dad bought it home and painted it up and picked out all the lettering and gave it to my Mum, along with some matching weights that I am trying to hunt out, as a gift. My Mum used it as a doorstop, but I prefer to use it to hold all my cook and baking books up. My tins were from Tesco and match my Tea, Coffee, Sugar, Utensils jars, Teacups, tea towels and another cake stand. There's usually some lovely goodies in this tin, who knows what you may find! It's a favourite with visiting children!

Finally is the sign that hangs above my patio doors off my kitchen into the garden. I saw this and loved it but couldn't think where it would go, but my friend talked me into to it and told me exactly where to put it. She was right, its the perfect space, and it makes everyone, especially me smile, as that is exactly what we get our Labrador to do when he comes in from the garden! He has to sit on the towel that is used as his door mat when he comes in so he can wipe the excess mud off his paws. He's quite used to this and it saves my floors and carpets!

I hope you enjoyed my mini home highlights and some of the stories that go with them. Please elt me know what you think in the comments :)
